The Founder of MG, Jim McCoy, had been riding e-bikes and ENVs (Electric Neighborhood Vehicles) for ten years prior to starting this project in June 2023. He tells how people used to laugh and say things like “I can afford a car”. E-bikes aren’t about showing off though. They are about a lifestyle that eliminates expensive gasoline, promotes independence, a less stressful life, and green living. E-bikes provide more mobility as they have a better range and move more quickly than pedal bikes.
What about exercise? People tell us that “They aren’t real bikes. They don’t provide exercise. It beats the purpose of a bike”. No, it doesn’t beat the purpose of a bike. It has a different purpose. PLUS, you can get exercise by pedaling an e-bike then use the Pedal Assist if you get too tired or just want to cruise. Most touring and city bikes have 5 levels of PAS (Peddle Assist) with level 5 being full electric power. If you have a cardiac condition, you can use the PAS to make it easier to peddle.
As for purpose, you don’t buy an e-bike to get exercise, the main purpose is as alternative transportation, a change of lifestyle. It’s a good feeling to be cut loose from the bonds of the auto and oil industry. E-bikes are clean, cheap, and liberating.
